A “Fenian” Visits Branch 230

A few weeks ago, author and Fenian Re-enactor William “Liam” McKone stopped by Branch 230 to introduce himself to some of our members including, our President Barb Hopkins. William took part in the 150th Anniversary of the Battle of Ridgeway conference and later donated his novel, “Vermont’s Irish Rebel” to our branch.

Mr. McKone is president of the 18th Vermont Regiment living history unit and an active re-enactor at Civil War events. He is also the author of Vermont’s Irish Rebel, the biography of Captain John Lonergan, an Irish-born Civil War hero buried in Burlington, who received a Medal of Honor at Gettysburg.

Donation Event

donationday-2013On Thursday May 23 Bertie Branch 230 Ridgeway held their annual Donation Event where approximately $10,000 was presented to local charities and/or service clubs. The picture attached represents our Lottery Chairman presenting the Navy League of Black Creek with their portion. Donations were given to a total of fourteen organizations.

Snooker Champions

snookerOn Dec 2, 2012 Legion Branch 230, Ridgeway won the Zone Snooker championships and the team will be advancing to District in Dundas on Jan 12, 2013.

Veterans Honoured

gilmoreTwo of Branch 230 Ridgeway’s Veterans were honoured by Paul Finlayson of Finlayson Tire with Bricks in the Juno Beach Centre Veteran and Donor Brick Program.
